Abstract

Pulmonary sequestration is a rare congenital malformation which is characterized by nonfunctional lung tissue with systemic arterial vascularization and unconnected to normal tracheaobronchial system. As it may be asymptomatic, recurrent infections and hemoptysis can also be seen. Early surgical intervention should be performed in order to protect lung parenchyma and to prevent possible complications and infections in pulmonary sequestration cases. Attentive preoperative imaging study and planning should be done. The aim of this article was to demonstrate the importance of angiographic imaging in detecting arterial origin of intralobar pulmonary sequestration and the role of arterial embolization in preventing intraoperative complications.
